The most basic way to rid these pests is by running the vacuum cleaner. If you are having issues getting everything, use the nozzle in a back and forth motion. Focus on the corners and the dark space underneath furniture, because fleas may be hidden. Once you’ve gone over the entire area thoroughly, empty the bag of your vacuum outside.
Steam cleaning is one of the best ways to get rid of fleas and their eggs. The steam eliminates just about everything that could be crawling unseen around the house. Once again make sure to get that base and seam parts of the furniture.
To avoid this problem in the future, get a treatment that you can spray on the carpet and upholstery. These treatments also eliminate adult fleas and eggs. There are powders available that contain boric acid which are very effective if you don’t like the spray. Also be sure to throw any blankets and pillows into a sanitary cycle and set the dryer to its hottest setting
It’s likely any household pets are attracting these fleas and pests from coming indoors. Keep your carpets regularly steam cleaned and be sure to treat your pets for fleas.
